Art enthusiasts and creative minds in Kampala have an exciting opportunity coming up this Saturday.
Xenson Artspace is renowned as a multidisciplinary creative hub located on Kenneth Dale Road in Kamwokya. It will host a hands-on Woodblock Printmaking Workshop on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The day-long workshop, running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, is specially designed to teach the fundamentals of traditional woodblock printmaking.
Attendees will get a rare opportunity to learn directly from top industry professionals, with the session being facilitated by senior printmaker and Makerere University lecturer Mr. Kanuge J.B., alongside respected artist Kajebe Jacob Joshua.
About The Facilitator:
Mr. Kanuge John Bosco (J.B.) is a highly respected academic, painter, and master printmaker who has significantly shaped contemporary Ugandan art. Born in 1968, he studied at the prestigious Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts at Makerere University. He holds a PhD and serves as a senior lecturer at the institution. His core research areas cover visual arts education, teacher professional development, and the role of art in national development. His studio practice is famous for blending traditional Ugandan motifs with modern technical printmaking methods. His works offer social commentary, exploring local urban encounters, identity, community, and social transformation. His work has received international recognition; notably, the World Bank art collection holds several of his prints. Locally, his prominent pieces include The Harvest and Curiosity. He is currently running a solo printmaking exhibition titled “MAAS’AWO (Next Stop)” right at the Xenson Art Space.
What to Expect:
Participants will dive into the immersive process of carving and printing, learning the step-by-step techniques required to bring a design to life on wood. By the end of the session, every attendee will have carved and pulled their own custom A4 print to take home.
